Company Revenue, Profit and Financial Scale

Raspberry Pi Holdings’ FY2024 results describe the listed company, not the entire Raspberry Pi ecosystem. The figures cover the financial years ended 31 December and are consolidated company measures.

Measure FY2024 FY2023
Revenue $259.5 million $265.8 million
Gross profit $63.2 million $66.0 million
Gross margin 24.4% 24.8%
Adjusted EBITDA $37.2 million $43.8 million
Profit before tax $16.3 million $38.2 million
Year-end cash $45.8 million $42.2 million
Basic EPS 6.5 cents 19.5 cents

The 2024 IPO produced separate financing flows. It raised £143.1 million for the Raspberry Pi Foundation and $40.0 million for the company in June 2024; the Foundation owned 46.7% of Raspberry Pi Holdings after the IPO disclosure.

Raspberry Pi also stated that it had contributed approximately $230 million since inception through FY2024 to support the Foundation. That is an approximate cumulative company statement, not an audited annual statistic.

Raspberry Pi Sales Volumes and Product Releases

The company distinguishes single-board computers and compute modules from microcontrollers. This matters because the categories have different unit definitions and should not be combined as though they represented one product type.

Worldwide unit measure 2024 2023 Measurement note
SBCs and compute modules 7.0 million 7.4 million Company unit-sales measure
Microcontrollers 5.7 million 3.1 million Includes microcontrollers incorporated into other products
Microcontrollers used in Pico boards 1.3 million 0.7 million Subset of total microcontrollers

SBC and compute-module sales declined 5% in FY2024 versus FY2023, while the company’s comparative table reports an 81% increase in microcontroller unit sales. Raspberry Pi 5 sold 1.9 million units worldwide in FY2024, following its late-October 2023 introduction and therefore representing a partial launch period in 2023.

The Raspberry Pi Foundation’s 2023 annual review separately reported 7 million Raspberry Pi computers sold worldwide. The Foundation headline has a scope that may differ from the plc’s SBC-and-compute-module reporting definition.

Raspberry Pi released 22 products in FY2024, compared with 6 in FY2023. Raspberry Pi Connect, launched for enthusiasts, reached an installed base of more than 100,000 devices worldwide during 2024; this installed-base figure includes the free enthusiast launch tier.

Raspberry Pi’s blended average selling price per board rose from $40.6 in 2023 to $43.3 in 2024, a company-reported 7% increase. The measure is not a model-specific retail price; it reflects the mix of boards and compute modules, including higher-priced products.

Company-defined measure 2024 2023
Average selling price per board $43.3 $40.6
Gross profit per SBC or compute module $7.4 $8.6
Accessory margin per board $1.2 $0.6
Accessory gross profit $8.5 million $4.5 million
SBC and compute-module gross profit $51.7 million $63.7 million

Source: Raspberry Pi Holdings plc FY 2024 Final Results. Gross profit per board and accessory margin per board are company-defined measures and are not retail markups.

Accessory gross profit grew 89% in 2024 from its smaller 2023 base. At the same time, gross profit from SBCs and compute modules fell from $63.7 million to $51.7 million.

The revenue mix also changed across company categories. Product revenue fell from $212.3 million in 2023 to $181.2 million in 2024, while component revenue rose from $43.5 million to $61.2 million and royalty revenue increased from $8.8 million to $15.9 million.

Royalty revenue is licensing income rather than direct hardware sales. Component revenue includes components supplied for licensee manufacturing, so these categories should not be read as additional Raspberry Pi board units.

Raspberry Pi Distribution and Industrial Adoption Data

Raspberry Pi reported 117 authorised resellers in FY2024, up from 104 in FY2023. The company also described this as a 13% increase and reported 13 authorised-reseller additions during 2024; the count does not measure sales generated by individual resellers.

Sales channel 2024 2023 Share of unit sales
Direct channel 4.9 million units 6.1 million units 70% in 2024; 82% in 2023
Licensee channel 2.1 million units 1.3 million units 30% in 2024; 18% in 2023

Source: Raspberry Pi Holdings plc FY 2024 Final Results. The direct channel covers direct-to-reseller and direct-to-OEM sales, while the licensee channel is separately defined by the company.

The channel data shows a shift in the reported mix: direct-channel unit sales fell from 6.1 million to 4.9 million, while licensee-channel unit sales rose from 1.3 million to 2.1 million. The FY2024 report described inventory correction and semiconductor-supply conditions as context for year-over-year sales changes; those explanations are company context rather than independent causal estimates.

Workforce and development figures provide additional scale indicators. Engineers represented 48% of Raspberry Pi Holdings employees in FY2024, up from 44% in FY2023, and total R&D expense rose from $10.6 million in 2023 to $17.9 million in 2024, a reported 69% increase.

Raspberry Pi Foundation Education and Learning Data

Foundation metrics measure engagement, downloads or participation in named programs. They do not automatically represent unique learners, completed courses or causal learning gains.

In 2023, more than 1.2 million learners engaged with Raspberry Pi Foundation online projects worldwide. Code Club World recorded 123,161 learners, while the Foundation’s Computing Curriculum resources generated 413,268 downloads and Experience AI lessons generated 64,271 downloads worldwide.

The same 2023 annual review reported 264,994 participants in online teacher-training courses worldwide. Students answered 12,261 questions on the Ada Computer Science online learning platform, a usage measure rather than a direct estimate of learning gain.

Program participation extended beyond online activity:

  • Coolest Projects recorded 5,801 young people from 37 countries showcasing projects in 2023.
  • The Astro Pi Challenge recorded 42,593 young people from 29 countries running code in space in 2023.

For an earlier comparison point, the Foundation reported that its free online learning resources engaged more than 3.54 million people worldwide in 2022. “Engaged” is broader than course completion and may include repeat users.

Raspberry Pi Clubs, Participation and Measured Outcomes

The 2023 club survey estimated more than 4,200 Code Clubs and 700 CoderDojos in the global network, reaching almost 139,000 young people. These are survey-derived network estimates, not an independently audited enrollment census.

The Foundation estimated more than 10,300 Code Club leaders and almost 4,000 CoderDojo champions worldwide at the survey date. Respondents reported that 42% of Code Club attendees were female and 30% of CoderDojo attendees were female; the two programs have different stated age ranges, so the percentages should not be merged into one population.

The Foundation’s 2022 figures provide a separate historical snapshot. More than 4,500 Code Clubs and CoderDojos were running in 103 countries, while 2,891 clubs disrupted by the pandemic reported plans to restart sessions.

Plans to restart are intentions rather than confirmed resumed activity.

More than 30,000 young people took part in Astro Pi and Coolest Projects challenges in 2022. The combined figure does not measure unique participants across both programs.

Experience AI provides survey-based outcome measures rather than experimental estimates. Follow-up surveys reported in 2025 found that 95% of educator respondents agreed sessions increased students’ AI knowledge, while 90% of young respondents indicated that they better understood AI and machine learning.
